We all had a good night’s sleep and a dry morning, so the tape worked. We had tried so many things…one piece sleepers (which he managed to un-zip or un-snap); he sleeps with a blanket, but isn’t real attached to it…among some other things. I think it came down to him liking the sound of the velcro when he un-did the tabs on his diapers. Who knows. We’re going to try this for a couple more nights and then see if it broke the habit for good.
So Harrison has been REALLY messing with his diaper lately when we put him to bed…I mean like taking the tabs apart, pushing it down, and just messing with it until it gets all bunched up and sometimes rips. Last night Kelly went in there after he heard him messing with it, and he had it completely off. Sometimes I go in there and he is pretty much sleeping, but still messing with it. It wouldn’t be a big deal, but he’s been waking up around 1:00 some nights with a wet bed. If it doesn’t wake him up in the middle of the night, he is even more wet in the morning. We have tried many times to get him to stop, but nothing has helped.
Tonight we took a drastic measure…duct tape. Just one small strip around so he couldn’t get the tabs undone, or push it down. When we put it on, he was seriously mad at us…maybe more confused as to why he couldn’t find the tabs. But I haven’t heard any rustling sounds through the monitor, so I think it might be working! We’ll see how it goes. ![]()
I still can’t really believe Harrison is now two…just seems weird to say it. Anyway, here’s some pics from the last few days.
We saved this gift for him to open on his birthday; it’s a little remote control car. He loves it!
Sitting with Grandpa in my Huskers hat, playing with my cars.
My new flannel jacket from Uncle Chad and Aunt Susan.
Found an interesting blog that had this listed as a post today. Makes my heart ache for BILLIONS of people living in poverty all over the world and wondering where their next meal will come from. Also makes me mad at myself wondering if I would be able to give this “stuff” up easily. Should there even be a question in my mind? No, but I wonder how I would handle it. I think I will be getting this book.
Rich Christians In An Age of Hunger
by Ron Sider
Excerpt from Chapter one “A Billion Hungry Neighbors”
To help us imagine what poverty means, a prominent economist itemized the “luxuries” we would have to abandon if we were to adopt the lifestyle of our 1.3 billion neighbors who live in desperate poverty.
We begin by invading the house of our imaginary American family to strip it of its furniture. Everything goes: beds, chairs, tables, television set, lamps. We will leave the family with a few old blankets, a kitchen table, a wooden chair. Along with the bureaus go the clothes. Each member of the family may keep in his “wardrobe” his oldest suit or dress, a shirt or blouse. We will permit a pair of shoes for the head of the family, but none for the wife or children.
We move to the kitchen. The appliances have already been taken out, so we turn to the cupboards…The box of matches may stay, a small bag of flour, some sugar and salt. A few moldy potatoes, already in the garbage can, must be hastily rescued, for they will provide much of tonight’s meal. We will leave a handful of onions, and a dish of dried beans. All the rest we take away: the meat, the fresh vegetables, the canned goods, the crackers, the candy.
Now we have stripped the house: the bathroom has been dismantled, the running water shut off, the electric wires taken out. Next we take away the house. The family can move into the toolshed…
Communications must go next. No more newspapers, magazines, books-not that they are missed, since we must take away our families literacy as well. Instead, in our shantytown we will allow one radio…
Now Government services must go. No more postman, no more fireman. There is a school, but it is three miles away and consists of two classrooms…There are, of course, no hospitals or doctors nearby. The nearest clinic is ten miles away and is tended by a midwife. It can be reached by bicycle, which is unlikely…
Finally, money. We will allow our family a cash hoard of five dollars. This will prevent our breadwinner from experiencing the tragedy of an Iranian peasant who went blind because he could not raise the $3.94 which he mistakenly thought he needed to receive admission to a hospital where he could have been cured.”
Harrison went pee in the potty three times yesterday, and one time this morning. He has been patting his diaper when it is wet, and also showing some other signs, so I thought I’d see if he wanted to try going, and he did it every time. I really have no clue what I’m doing with this, so we’ll see how it goes. Any great tips out there from you potty-training-experienced moms?? ![]()
We had a small party today for Harrison’s birthday. We had Grandma and Grandpa Gubser, Grandma and Grandpa Osburn, and our good friends, the Butler’s , here for brunch and cake. Harrison got so many cute things…a little 4-wheeler, an easel, a t-ball stand and bat, several books, a puzzle, many cars…and we saved something for him on Tuesday, for his actual birthday. We had a fun morning with everyone, and are thankful we were able to share it with everyone!
We decided to do another Cars cake this year for Harrison’s party, but wanted to do something different than last year. I found this idea on another blog, and went with it. We were very pleased with the results, and I think Harrison was, too! The whole time we sang to him, he was reaching for the cake and kept saying “cars, cars, cars”.
Kelly cutting the cake into a “2″…or should I say sculpting?
Icing, decorating, etc…
Before the cars were put on…
The final result…
We have a very busy next few days. We’re having Harrison’s 2nd birthday party on Sunday (his birthday is Tuesday), and we’re having both sets of grandparents here for the weekend! It will be so much fun to have everyone here together. Trying to get lots done in the next few days. We’ll see how it goes, though; I don’t seem to have too much motivation right now. I hate that feeling…
